What Areas Can be Treated With SmartLipo

SmartLipo is ideal for treating localized areas of the abdomen (e.g. love handles), arms, back, bra strap, enlarged breasts (males), flanks, hips, jaw line, knees, neck, waist and thighs.
With SmartLipo, precision is achieved and therefore, this procedure is effective on areas that can’t be easily treated with conventional liposuction. As laser technology is used, skin elasticity is improved making the results more natural-looking!

What are the risks of SmartLipo?

Compared with other liposuction procedures, SmartLipo is considered to be safer. However, just like any other surgical procedure, it still carries some risks. Some of the risks involved with SmartLIpo include:
  • Infection at the treated area.
  • Uneven or asymmetrical results in areas where fat was removed.
  • Discoloration of the skin, particularly the treatment site.
  • Risks of burns from the laser’s heat.
The possibility of these risks is greatly reduced by choosing a reputable and experienced surgeon. One such cosmetic surgeon within Edmonton and nearby areas is Dr. Sapijaszko of Youthful Image Clinic. Book a consultation today to have access to a skilled and licensed doctor who can help you achieve the body you desire!

How should you take care of yourself after the procedure?

Like any other liposuction treatment, after-surgery care is necessary. Here are some instructions to help you throughout the recovery and healing process:
  • Bed rest is recommended after the procedure.
  • Normal daily activities can be resumed immediately, including some light exercise. However, vigorous activities should be avoided until at least the first 2 weeks after operation.
  • After the procedure, the incisions are dressed with gauze (placed inside the compression garment) to absorb drainage. Drainage would ooze so dressing should be changed periodically.
  • Binders or special type of garments are usually to be used to provide compression over the operated areas. Use the compression garment 24 hours a day for 2 weeks, decreasing the hours to 12-18 hours for the following weeks, or as instructed by the doctor.
  • Normal diet can be resumed immediately though we recommend drinking adequate amounts of water. Alcohol should be avoided 1-2 days after operation, and drink only in minimal amounts for the next 2 weeks.
  • Follow the doctor’s prescribed pain medication and antibiotics.
  • Avoid taking aspirin and blood thinners (e.g. Motrin) for a week after operation.
  • Avoid smoking after the procedure.
  • Minimal discomfort may be experienced for a few days to a week.
  • The doctor would schedule you for follow-up visits, to check the healing process and recovery. Doing so will ensure that you are healing well without infection.
